Reading for pleasure comes first.

There are 25 stories, each with a full and a separately written shorter telling. Sixteen also have generated full-story narration. Children can read, echo, act, point, listen or pass. Conversation and the money extension are optional, not a test or a required sequence.

Stories lead to books by other creators and local library services. No purchase or account is needed to use the resource. The national campaign’s family guidance encourages following interests and includes shared listening among its reading options.

Our 2026 reading pledge.

PMA submitted its pledge on 4 September 2026. Between September and December we committed to at least ten free shared-reading activities, reaching at least 300 children and 100 adults, a free resource usable across the UK, Take 10 participation and an honest delivery write-up.

Our subsequently published library commitment is for at least six of those activities in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent libraries. Host agreements and dates still need to be confirmed individually. These are delivery commitments, not evidence that sessions have already happened.

Our report will distinguish activities arranged and delivered, attendance and any reliably established unique reach. We will use aggregate information from hosts, practitioner feedback and learning, not child profiles.

Beyond 2026

The existing published commitments for 2027 remain: keep the resource free through 2027 and beyond; deliver ten further sessions between January and July, at least six in libraries; and publish the 2026 write-up before that delivery begins. These promises require delivery planning and host agreement. They are not booked events or measured outcomes.

Two October dates, clearly separated.

Thursday 8 October: the National Literacy Trust and British Council are running the official Take 10 record-attempt event. The youngest scheduled session is for ages 5–8. Its own registration and counting requirements apply. See the official event and registration.

Saturday 10 October: World Mental Health Day and PMA’s own planned 10am reading moment. Schools may arrange local reading on Friday 9 or Monday 12 October. Reading here does not register anyone for the record attempt.

Why this age group?

The National Literacy Trust’s June 2026 survey reported that reading enjoyment among 5–8-year-olds fell from 62.6% to 61.6%, with the decline driven by boys. The older 8–18 group showed a rise. These findings provide context, not evidence that PMA improves reading. Our audience is 4–7, so the age ranges overlap but are not identical.

About this edition.

These are AI-assisted campaign stories using PMA’s existing characters and artwork. They are separate from the published Ava Saves Up! book. The sixteen recorded stories retain their matching full text. The nine stories without recordings have been revised to include more action and resolved endings. All 25 shorter tellings are separate text, not a filter that removes essential dialogue.

Some recorded stories have open endings, inviting an imagined next step. No child has to supply one. The audio always uses its full story; changing to the shorter text stops it.

We do not claim a human KS1 specialist assessment, a reading age, phonics level or proven outcome. The revised resource has not yet had a representative child–adult or disabled-user study. Technical checks and AI-assisted editorial work are not independent validation.

Host a reading moment.

Use it yourself, anywhere: the online stories and complete off-screen pack are free across the UK. No PMA visit is needed.

PMA-led activities: pledged sessions are local to Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent and free to the host, children and families. We bring the story and printed activity. The host provides a suitable room and a staff member who stays throughout and retains responsibility for the children. Duration, group size, staffing and adjustments are agreed before confirming a visit. This reading pledge is separate from PMA’s wider commissioned programmes.

Before a visit is confirmed

Agree the current safeguarding, insurance and DBS information required for each person’s role with PMA and the host. We do not promise an identical check for every possible visitor or same-day document delivery. No visit should be confirmed before the host’s assurance requirements are met.

PMA takes no photographs of children during these pledged reading activities. No child’s name, recording or completed work is needed for this resource. If a child raises a concern, follow the setting’s safeguarding procedures promptly, involve its Designated Safeguarding Lead and do not investigate or promise secrecy. Act immediately where there is danger.
