Bennie's Big Feather Day

Bennie the budgie helped Dad at the market. He called the prices and stacked the boxes. By the quiet part of the day, he had earned four coins.

Dad had a favourite saying:

Budgies always budget.

Across the way stood a bird bath shaped like a rocket. It had fins and a tiny ladder. It cost three coins.

Bennie's feathers stood up. ‘A rocket that holds WATER!’

Dad suggested giving the coins their jobs first.

Budgies always budget.

One coin was already for the seed bag on the way home. That left three.

Bennie lined up his four coins and looked at the rocket bath. He could keep the seed money in his plan while thinking about the bath.

The little ladder went nowhere yet. Bennie's imagination was already halfway up it.
