The Hot Tummy

Ava saw trainers in a window. They cost nine coins. She had nine.

My tummy has gone hot.

“I really want them,” she told Mum.

“Thank you for telling me,” Mum said.

They had come out for a run. Ava wanted that too, but the trainers kept filling her thoughts.

Mum offered a little walk before deciding. Ava held her hand. They watched a spinning leaf and passed a window of books.

“I'd like my run first,” Ava decided. The trainers could wait.

At the track she stretched and smiled. Now her tummy felt ready to race.
