Shorter tellingThe Enormous Hat
A Silverton story, narrated by Walbot. Read, echo, act or listen.
Zion came round the corner wearing a hat so enormous it seemed to have its own weather.
That is a big hat.
Ava tried it on. Under the brim it felt like a small, cool tent. She liked it very much.
A stall had one left for five coins. Ava had exactly five.
Louis asked where she would keep it.
‘On my HEAD,’ Ava said.
That is a big hat.
Mum asked what Ava had wanted when she woke up that morning.
‘I didn't KNOW about the hat,’ Ava replied. That was true too.
Ava could like a new idea without having to decide straight away. Five coins would buy the hat, or stay on her band.
For now, she stood beneath Zion's enormous brim and enjoyed a minute of private weather.
A little more, only if you like
What else might fit in the shadow of that hat?
