The Trumpet Band

A shop on Spend Street sold covers for money-bands. One played a trumpet whenever a coin was spent.

Toot! Toot! Toot!

Ava loved the sound. The cover cost five coins, and she had seven.

Louis said spending was the start of owning something. Ava said choosing was the hard part, and a trumpet made it fun.

Then Zion bought sweets while wearing the cover. Out went a coin. Off went the trumpet.

Toot! Toot! Toot!

I wondered whether the sound might make spending feel like a reward. Ava thought it was a wonderful trumpet. We could both notice something different.

Five coins would buy the cover. Two would remain.

Ava looked at her band. Did she want the cover itself, or another chance to hear the noise? The trumpet had given us plenty to think about.
